This is my prototype ayatakedai stand made out of PVC pipe.  I need to redo a few things on it but right now it does the job it is supposed to.   You can find the how to use the ayatakedai in Aiko Sakai and Makiko Tada's book titled Kumihimo.  It is a reprint from an older book into English.  The braid is the pattern called Suruga-gumi out of the same book.  Hopefully I can teach a beginning class with the ayatakedai once I can get several set ups so people can play on it.

On the marudai behind the PVC stand is 32 strand Mitake-Genji gumi braid 5 colors.  For some reason the whole project was stored away and I just found it again in 2010.  Look for a different colorway on this pattern in the 2010-2011 gallery.
